Curriculum

This is one of three pages on our curriculum.

  • Curriculum Support – This page! Our current topic plans, letters and guides for parents, advice on national tests and homework!
  • Curriculum Rationale – How the Early Years Foundation Stage, the National Curriculum, our context, our priorities and our values work together.
  • Curriculum Design –  Our Long Term Plan, statements of intent, sequencing and year-end expectations for learning in each subject.

Learning to read

At North Nibley we teach reading, initially through a system of ‘phonics’. ‘Phonics is the word used to describe the sounds that letters make.  We include a lot more information on the following page – Our page on phonics.

How is learning organised?

Children typically spend 7 years at North Nibley C of E Primary. We have four classrooms and each has a full-time class teacher. In order to organise the learning to which each child is entitled, we have a rolling programme of topics, through which the key skills and understanding are taught. Each term the class teacher writes to parents and carers to give an overview of the learning that will be covered.
